Jose Bedia Biography

1959-

José Bedia is a Cuban painter who currently lives and works in Miami, Florida.  He studied at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes “San Alejandro” and then finished his art studies at the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana. His artistic work has been presented in several individual shows, such as “Final del Centauro” in 1989 at Castillo de la Real Fuerza, Havana, Cuba. In 1994, he presented “José Bedia: De donde vengo” at the Institute of Contemporary Art, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.  He also exhibited his work at “InSite94: A Binational Exhibition of Installation and Site Specific Art” in the San Diego Train Station, San Diego, California.

In 1978, he started participating in several collective exhibitions.  He was selected to participate in the Cubans’ exhibition in the 1st and 2nd Havana Biennial at El Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes.  In 1990, he was in the XLIV Exposizione Internazionale d’Arte, Biennale di Venezia in Venice, Italy.  In 2001, his pieces were part of two exhibitions: “Inside and Out – Contemporary Sculpture, Video and Installations” at the Bass Museum of Art in Miami, Florida and the “IV Bienal del Caribe y Centroamérica” at El Museo de Arte Moderno in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
